[Dexter Lehtinen](/people/dexter-lehtinen/) was an assistant [U.S. Attorney](/organizations/united-states-attorney/) and a close friend of [Allan Boyak](/people/allan-boyak/) from his Green Beret days. He later became the Miami [U.S. Attorney](/organizations/us-attorneys-office-for-the-southern-district-of-florida/). He was named Interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida effective June 17, 1988.[^1] The Senate's 1992 report on [BCCI](/organizations/bank-of-credit-and-commerce-international/) calls him "the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Dexter Lehtinen," among the critics of the Justice Department's handling of the bank.[^2] Boyak consulted with Lehtinen before going to the Los Angeles [FBI](/organizations/federal-bureau-of-investigation/) office with his suspicions about [Robert Booth Nichols](/people/robert-booth-nichols/)' activities.[^3]
