• Mack McLarty Kindergarten classmate of Bill Clinton who succeeded Sheffield Nelson at the Arkla gas utility, became Clinton's first White House chief of staff, solicited consulting clients for Webster Hubbell, and went into business with Henry Kissinger.
• Sheffield Nelson Witt Stephens's successor at Arkla, who broke with the Stephens family in 1975, sold gas leases to Jerry Jones that the utility bought back at a large markup, and lost to Bill Clinton in 1990.
• Witt Stephens Arkansas bond dealer who founded the Stephens investment house in 1933, controlled Arkansas Louisiana Gas from 1954, had the legislature undo a state supreme court ruling in four days, and was the state's kingmaker.
